Recently, I had the privilege of welcoming sweet little Charlie, his parents, and his grandmother into my Natural Light Studio for his newborn photoshoot. Bringing a newborn into the world is a magical moment filled with joy & love. At 3 weeks old, Charlie couldn’t get enough snuggles with his family. I know Charlie and his parents will look back on all of his adorable expressions and sweet little moments of connection and treasure these early memories we captured together forever. I can’t wait to share a few of my favorites with you!

Newborn Photos at 3 Weeks Old

I absolutely LOVE this age for newborn photos. At 3 weeks old, Charlie put on quite an adorable show for us during his newborn photoshoot! Some families choose to do their newborn photos right away in the first couple weeks after birth. But Charlie’s mom told me she was hoping to capture a mix of sleeping and bright-eyed, expressive newborn photos, so we planned to schedule his photos around 3-4 weeks old when he was a little more awake and alert. Just as we hoped, Charlie was awake and expressive for the first part of our session. And then after a quick feeding, we ended the session with Charlie sleeping peacefully like only a newborn can.

The age of the baby is flexible with the natural style of newborn photography I specialize in because the baby doesn’t need to be asleep to capture beautiful memories together. That’s why I take the time to educate my clients and help them choose the age that works best for them when they reach out to schedule their newborn photoshoot with me.

Charlie’s Newborn Photoshoot Outfits

I usually suggest choosing 2-3 outfits for the baby for a newborn photoshoot. Typically, we’ll use two outfits, but it’s always best to have a 3rd outfit ready in case of an unexpected blowout! For Charlie’s newborn photos, mom brought along an adorable little textured knit sweater & pants set. In my experience, a snug fit is best for newborn photos. So mom bought the newborn size, and it fit Charlie perfectly.

For Charlie’s 2nd outfit, mom chose these adorable cashmere newborn pants from my Client Closet. I’m a huge fan of a simple, natural look for newborn photos. With that extra touch of softness & texture combined with Charlie’s beautiful newborn skin, it was a perfect choice for Charlie’s 2nd outfit!

Newborn Photos with Grandparents

Bryna Nelson Paston once said, “Truth be told, being a grandma is as close as we ever get to perfection. The ultimate warm sticky bun with plump raisins and nuts. Clouds nine, ten, and eleven.” To say Charlie’s grandmother was on clouds nine, ten, and eleven over the birth of her beautiful grandson is definitely an understatement! Grandparents are often there to lend a helping hand to new parents, and that’s why I always welcome grandparents to participate in a baby’s newborn photoshoot whenever parents request it.

In this case, Grandma was visiting from overseas to help out with the new baby in any way she was needed. Toward the end of our session, Charlie fell asleep snuggled in his Grandma’s arms, and the way she smiles down at him adoringly says it all. Taking advantage of this opportunity to capture some of her earliest snuggles with her grandson is priceless.

Welcome to the world, Charlie! It makes my heart so full to know that you’ll look back on these photos and know just how much you are loved!
