Being a cake smash photographer is such a fun job! There is something so special about celebrating a baby’s very first birthday. And adorable Ezra’s cake smash photoshoot in my natural light studio was the sweetest way to mark this incredible milestone.

Ezra came to the studio with his Mom and Dad for a fun-filled session centered around one very important birthday tradition: cake! At this age, little ones are becoming so curious about the world around them, and I love creating first birthday photoshoots that give them the freedom to explore, play, and simply be themselves.

Ezra’s 1st Birthday Photoshoot

One of my favorite things about photographing first birthdays is that there is no need to force a pose or ask little ones to sit perfectly still. Instead, I give them a few simple toys to play with and allow their personality to shine through. The result is a gallery filled with genuine expressions, curious little looks, cheeky smiles, and all of those adorable moments that make this age so memorable.

From his sweet interactions with his parents, to playing the xylophone, to pushing my little toy cars around the studio, Ezra impressed us all with his adorable expressions and so many memorable moments!

Celebrating With Mom & Dad

While the cake smash is certainly a highlight of a first birthday session, I always make sure there is plenty of time for family photos, too. After all, your baby turning one is a milestone for the entire family!

I loved capturing Ezra with his parents and documenting the connection they share. The cuddles, smiles, little interactions, and moments of play are just as important as the cake smash, in my opinion. These are the photographs that will bring everyone right back to this season of life when you look back on them years from now.

Time to Make a Delicious Mess!

When Ezra’s cake made its appearance, it was time to celebrate! Cake smash sessions are meant to be fun and messy, and I love giving babies the opportunity to discover their cake at their own pace. Some babies dive right in. Others are a little more cautious. Some want to taste every bite, while others are far more interested in squishing the frosting between their fingers. Whatever their reaction, it becomes part of their story. And that is what makes each cake smash session unique and special.

Ezra put on quite a show for us during his cake smash! He started off just feeling the icing and playing with his cake topper. But once he got a taste of his cake, he dug right in with both hands and there was no looking back! I especially loved how he kept raising his arms in the air and looking at his Mom & Dad to show them how excited he was. Ezra had us smiling until our cheeks hurt as he made a delicious mess!

A Sweet Way to Remember Turning One

The first year goes by unbelievably fast. One minute you’re bringing your newborn home, and the next you’re celebrating their very first birthday, watching them toddle, explore, laugh, and discover more of their personality.

Ezra’s first birthday photoshoot was such a beautiful celebration of this season for his family. From the family snuggles to the playful moments and, of course, the cake smash, his session captured all the joy of turning one.
