Welcoming a newborn into the world is a joyous occasion filled with love, excitement, and anticipation. One way to savor these precious moments is through newborn photography. And recently, I had the pleasure of capturing beautiful baby Josie and her adoring parents in my Natural Light Studio. Josie was 3 weeks old when she and her parents came into my studio for her newborn photos. I absolutely love this age for newborn photos because of all the sweet expressions, stretches, and sweet little moments of connection. I can’t wait to share some of the sweet moments we captured together at Josie’s newborn session!
Natural, Family-Centered Newborn Photography
When mom initially reached out to me, she told me she wasn’t even sure she wanted to hire a newborn photographer. After looking at a number of portfolios, she came across my website and said she knew right away that we were a good fit because she wanted their earliest memories as a new family of three to be natural, relaxed, and full of love. This is exactly what I strive for in every newborn session I photograph: capturing a family’s love for their new baby. Josie spent most of our session soaking in all the cuddles and kisses her parents were itching to give her. Here was mom’s reaction when she first saw their images:
“OH MY GOSH THEY ARE PERFECT!! Yay!!! Oh we love them so much. It was so hard to choose our favorites but our list is ready for you! Thank you so much…we can’t wait to see the final photos and use them for our birth announcement cards and hang some around the house!!”
In the end, I wasn’t at all surprised when most of the images mom selected for their final gallery were filled with sweet cuddles and kisses. These new parents simply can’t contain their joy and love for their new baby girl!
Selecting Outfits for Josie’s Newborn Photoshoot
I starting building my Client Closet because I know how challenging it can be to find newborn clothes in petite and newborn sizes. Most baby clothing brands begin their sizing at 0-3 months because it’s more practical. But in my experience as a professional newborn photographer, a snug fit is always my top priority when choosing the baby’s outfits for newborn photos. And that’s why my Client Closet is full of soft, handknit pieces from around the world in those hard to find petite and newborn sizes. It’s so nice for new moms to get this plan in place ahead of time so they have one less thing to worry about when the baby arrives!
Mom took full advantage of my Client Closet when she came into the studio for her pre-session consultation before Josie was born. She picked out a beautiful textured romper, bloomers, and a couple of headbands for Josie’s photos. Mom also deserves a lot of credit because she did an amazing job of complimenting the soft neutrals she picked out for Josie with her outfit choices for her and dad. But of course, adorable Josie stole the show!
