Family Centered Newborn Photos With Young Siblings | Pottstown, PA
As a family centered newborn photographer, I absolutely adore doing newborn photos for families with young siblings! There’s something truly magical about welcoming a new baby into your family, and I recently welcomed John Paul into my Natural Light Studio at 10 days old. Throughout the session, I had the pleasure of witnessing big sister Keira and Lina’s love for their new baby brother. From tenderly cradling him in their arms to planting gentle kisses on his forehead, their affection for John Paul melted my heart. And with the full wall of floor to ceiling windows in my Natural Light Studio, every sweet snuggle and kiss was captured in beautiful light. I’m so excited to share some of my favorite moments from John Paul’s newborn photoshoot with you!
Sibling Newborn Photos on a Bed
I usually start off my newborn sessions with sibling and family photos so we can capitalize on the excitement of young siblings right out of the gates. Keira & Lina were itching to snuggle with their baby brother, so we started off our session with some sibling newborn photos on the bed in my studio. We made sure to capture lots of sweet moments with all three of them cuddling. And of course Keira and Lina each got their own special time with their baby brother, too!
Sibling Newborn Photos on a Bean Bag
At this stage of the session, sometimes young siblings need a break for a quick snack to recharge. But Keira & Lina were still eager and excited to take more photos. So I moved John Paul over to the bean bag and captured some beautiful backlit shots. I just adore capturing beautiful backlit silhouette shots in black & white, and I also took some photos from above to freeze these moments from every angle. These sweet little moments of the girls smiling down at their baby brother, holding his hands, and giving him a soft kiss on the forehead are some of my favorite images of our session!
Mommy & Daddy Snuggles
Newborn sessions are too long to realistically expect young siblings to be actively engaged the entire time. So while Keira and Lina took a break to play and have a snack, we spent some time with just John Paul, Mommy, & Daddy. This is a perfect time for parents to take a deep breath and soak in some scrumptious newborn snuggles with their new little love.
John Paul’s Time to Shine
These early newborn days fly by in a whirlwind and are often difficult for new parents to remember clearly when they look back on them. At 10 days fresh in this world, John Paul loved being wrapped in one of my fuzzy swaddle wraps. And even when we unwrapped him, he tucked his arms and legs in close to his body just like he was all curled up in the womb. John Paul slept for almost our entire session, and these sleepy, snuggly newborn photos are very typical when you do newborn photos in the first two weeks after birth. John Paul put on quite an adorable show for us, and we even got lucky enough to capture that elusive early sleeping smile!
Family Centered Newborn Photos
After a break for some play time and a quick snack, Keira & Lina were excited to jump back in on the snuggles to finish off our session. Taking time to capture the full family as well as some special photos of mom with all her babies is a top priority for me in every newborn session I photograph. In many families, moms don’t have an abundance of pictures with their kids because they’re often the ones documenting their family from behind the camera. Sweet hugs and kisses and cuddles happen every day amidst the chaos of raising little ones, and it’s my mission to make sure moms get into the frame with their babies as much as possible!
As our photoshoot came to an end, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to document the next chapter in this growing family’s story. Having three little ones is certain to keep your hands and hearts full in the weeks and months and years ahead. But I know that these images will hold a special place in your hearts as you look back on them. Welcome to the world, John Paul 🙂 I can’t wait to see you again soon and watch you grow!
