This in home maternity photoshoot was particularly special because I’ve gotten to watch this family grow over the years. I first met this sweet family a few years ago when I took their son’s newborn photos. Then we did an outdoor milestone session together when Hudson turned 1 year old. So it was a huge thrill for me to be invited back to their home where our photo journey first began to celebrate their excitement as they anxiously await the arrival of their new baby girl! I’m so excited to share just a few of my favorite moments from our in home maternity session.
Beautiful Bay Window Maternity Photos
When I arrived at the family’s home, I was greeted with smiles and excitement. Big brother Hudson got a little confused when his mommy told him I was coming over for photos, because he thought it meant his baby sister was going to arrive TODAY! Even though he was a little bummed to learn that he has to wait a bit longer to meet his sister, he was still bubbling with excitement for our photoshoot. Whenever I do an in home session, I love to highlight special features of the home whenever possible. So we started the session by capturing some sweet family snuggles in front of their beautiful bay window.
Lifestyle Maternity Photos
One of the unique challenges – and joys – of photographing maternity sessions with young children is embracing spontaneity and allowing the sweet moments to unfold naturally. Toddlers, with their boundless energy and curiosity, add an extra layer of charm and unpredictability to the shoot. As a photographer, it’s important to approach these sessions with flexibility, patience, and an open heart, ready to capture the genuine moments of connection and joy as they emerge. I just love Hudson’s smile as mommy gives him a snuggle and a tickle!
Using Window Light for Maternity Photos
As photographers, we often find ourselves chasing the perfect light, and I love placing moms right next to a window to full take advantage of the light pouring into the home. The proximity to the window accentuates the shadows and highlights, creating a beautiful depth and dimension that truly makes an expecting mother glow. And of course big brother to be Hudson didn’t want to miss a moment. So when he ran in to join his mommy and daddy next the window and placed his hands on both his cheeks, it ended up being one of my favorite photos from our session!
This in home maternity photoshoot was a celebration of love, anticipation, and the beautiful chaos of family life. I’m honored to have been a part of it, and I can’t wait to welcome their newest addition into the world at her newborn photoshoot in a few weeks!
