Newborn Photos With Siblings | Natural Newborn Photographer | Pottstown, PA
Doing newborn photos with siblings is one of my favorite parts of a lifestyle newborn session because it captures the very beginning of a lifelong bond. Bringing a new baby home is a huge moment for the entire family, especially for big brothers and sisters. These images are often filled with curiosity, tenderness, and the sweetest unscripted moments. And nothing melts a mother’s heart like having all their babies together in the same frame. Today I’m here to share with you a few of my favorite ways to photograph newborns with their siblings in a natural, relaxed way.
Siblings Snuggling With the Baby on a Bed
One of the coziest and most meaningful ways I love to photograph siblings is to have them snuggle up on a bed with their new baby. This works especially well when there are young siblings who may have trouble holding and safely supporting the baby on their own. It allows siblings relax, be a little goofy and expressive as the baby lays safely and securely, and share some sweet moments with their baby brother or sister.
I also love using a bed for sibling photos when I’m doing a twin newborn session as it allows both babies to be visible in the photos as their siblings interact with them, giving them kisses and cuddles galore!
Sibling Newborn Photos on the Bean Bag
Soft, backlit images are perfect for capturing sweet interactions between siblings and their new baby. With the baby laying comfortably on the bean bag, siblings can give them a gentle kiss, talk to them, hold their hand, count their tiny fingers and toes, give them a tickle, or simply watch them with wonder. These moments are often among the favorite images for the families I work with because they’re authentic and focused on the siblings interacting with the baby rather than smiling at the camera.
From Above: Sibling Hugs & Kisses
Overhead shots are a beautiful way to show the sibling’s love and protectiveness. I love photographing from above while a sibling hugs or gently wraps their arms around the baby. This angle highlights how tiny the newborn is and how proud the older sibling already feels in their new role.
Siblings Holding the Baby
This shot works best when siblings are a bit older and better able to hold the baby in a way that’s safe and secure. I find that older siblings are often eager and proud to hold their baby brother or sister in their arms. There’s nothing more genuine and authentic than straight up cuddles and that beaming proud big brother/sister smile!
Sibling Newborn Photos With Mom & Dad
Some of the most touching images come from close-ups of siblings kissing, hugging, or nuzzling the baby while mom and dad hold the baby. This gives siblings confidence and comfort, while allowing me to capture all the tiny expressions, soft kisses, and genuine affection up close.
Including siblings in newborn photos isn’t about perfect poses—it’s about capturing connection. These early moments of love, curiosity, and closeness become cherished memories that families look back on for years to come. It’s such an honor when I get to preserve these sweet memories of siblings loving on their new baby!
