Capturing your joy in beautiful light so that you and your babies can treasure these memories forever makes my heart so full. Sweet Greta has arrived to the joy of this beautiful new family of four! With proud parents and a big sister who all adore her, I can’t imagine a girl could be any luckier!
Newborn Photoshoot Scheduling
I’ve had the pleasure of capturing this family’s maternity and newborn photos for both of their beautiful girls. It boggles my mind how fast the years fly by, and now Ellie has joined the big sister club!
One of the benefits of running my own business is that I have the flexibility to make my own schedule. I only take a certain number of newborn sessions each month to ensure I can serve all my clients well. This also allows me to offer scheduling flexibility since you just never know if a baby will arrive before or after the due date. I put the baby’s due date on my calendar to reserve space for the session, and I only reserve a certain number of due dates for each month. Then after the baby is born, we select a specific date for our newborn session based on what works best for the family.
Preparing for Greta’s Newborn Photos
I remembered from big sister Ellie’s newborn session that mom loves bright, classic newborn photos with a bit of color and texture for contrast. My Client Closet is full of light neutral colors and beautiful knit textures for both moms and babies. So this made planning for Greta’s newborn photos a breeze. I told mom to pick out a tan sweater for dad to give the photos some warmth. Then all mom had to do was show up at the studio, check out the options, and choose what she loved best for herself, big sister Ellie, and baby Greta.
After trying on a few beautiful dresses that were definitely contenders, we all knew Mom had picked the perfect dress when she came out in this gorgeous soft pink color. With dad in tan, big sister Ellie in white, and mom in pink, it was easy to pick out a pink knit romper, white bow, and a couple of knit blankets for baby Greta to tie the whole look together and give us some beautiful variety throughout the session.
Family Newborn Photos With Young Siblings
I know from experience as a mom and as a photographer who specializes in working with families with young kids how much energy young kids bring to a photo session. And newborn sessions especially can be hard for young toddlers who are learning how to share mommy and daddy’s attention with the new baby.
This is one of the biggest reasons I decided to build a natural light newborn photography studio. Because the most beautiful moments aren’t scripted or posed. They’re organic. You have to be patient and allow them to unfold. I never expect little kids to pose perfectly for the camera or follow my instructions. As any mother out there can tell you, that’s just not how real life works with young kids. Instead, I have my camera ready with a fast shutter speed to capture sweet moments as they happen. And when ALL of those little moments when your toddler swoops into the frame to give mommy a kiss and baby sister a cuddle happen in beautiful light, you end up with the sweetest moments like this to treasure forever.
When I started my photography business, I expected to like it. But I had no idea just how much I’d love it! Sweet moments and hugs and kisses with your babies happen every day–split seconds when the world stands still in the midst of the chaos of raising little ones. Yet these moments often happen when no one is looking, and almost never get captured on camera. To capture moments like this and deliver them to families makes taking natural light newborn photos the greatest job I can imagine.
