Best Spots for Spring Photos
As a professional photographer, families almost always ask me about the best spots for spring photos. Spring is just around the corner, and this flower-loving gal cannot wait to feel the warm spring sunshine on my face! I just posted my spring session calendar. So I thought it would be helpful to share some of the best spots for spring photos to help you pick out THE special spot for your family’s photos this spring.
Why is Spring a Great Time of Year for Photos?
- SPRING FLOWERS!! ~ Anyone who knows me is probably already aware that I love flowers! Now imagine yourself laughing and snuggling with your family with vibrant flowers blooming all around you. If this immediately gives you a goofy grin that you can’t seem to wipe off your face, then spring is your season, mama! Let’s take this daydream and turn it into reality.
- Mother’s Day ~ With Mother’s Day coming up, photo sessions are the perfect way to celebrate motherhood. In most families, moms are the ones behind the camera documenting all the big and little moments as they unfold. I don’t have many pictures of me and my daughter Lucy, and the ones I do have are some of my favorites. If you’re a mom, treat yourself by booking a photo session with your babies. I’ve yet to meet a grandma who wouldn’t count photos of her grandbabies among the best possible gifts they could receive, too!
- Warm Evenings and Spring Sunshine ~ Mother Nature is always a wildcard when it comes to outdoor family photos. That’s why I always leave room for re-scheduling due to weather if necessary. And in the event that we need to bump your family photo session back due to rainy weather or unexpected illness, the temperatures get WARMER as spring goes on. When your kids are warm and comfortable, it makes family photos a much more joyful experience for everyone!
- No Holiday Card Deadline ~ Don’t get me wrong–I’m one of the many moms who LOVES sending out a family holiday card. And I look forward to getting holiday cards from our family and friends as well. But it’s so nice to do photos when you don’t feel that rush to get the pictures done by a certain date. With no deadline looming over you, you can relax and just enjoy the experience. Plus, if you pick one of these best spots for spring photos, they make for a beautifully bright and cheery holiday card a few months down the road as well. You can even take advantage of the best sales for holiday cards that usually run in October! Knocking those holiday cards off your to do list months ahead of time before the crazy busy holiday season hits will feel better than you think.
Best Spot for Spring Cherry Blossom Photos ~ Philadelphia
- Best Time to Schedule Spring Photos: Late March-Early April
- The Highlights: The Cherry Blossoms are one of the first blooms to open in the early spring before the leaves are even on the trees. My favorite spot for early Cherry Blossom photos is in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. Peak bloom time can vary from year to year, and the blooms can be short lived depending on the weather once they open. For this reason, I’m only able to offer 1-2 session dates at maximum for the early blooming cherry blossoms each year, so availability is very limited for these beautiful, fleeting blooms.
- Pro Scheduling Tip: Weekday evening scheduling flexibility is necessary to time our session when the trees are in peak bloom.

Best Spot for Spring Peach Blossom Photos ~ Mohnton
- Best Time to Schedule Spring Photos: Early-Mid April
- The Highlights: Rows upon rows of soft pink peach blossoms as far as the eye can see burst into bloom in early spring before the leaves are even on the trees. It’s a magical setting for families with little ones who love to explore!

Best Spot for Spring Apple Blossom Photos ~ Kennett Square
- Best Time to Schedule Spring Photos: Late April
- The Highlights: Apples may come to mind first when you hear the word orchard, but the fields of apple trees are just as beautiful when they burst into bloom in the spring. The soft white apple blossoms bloom just after the leaves begin to emerge. With a little luck and good timing, the white pear blossoms and pink peach blossoms may still be blooming when the apple blossoms flowers open, too.

Longwood Gardens ~ Kennett Square
- Best Time to Schedule Spring Photos: May
- The Highlights: Longwood Gardens is a gorgeous spot for photos any time of year, but I’m absolutely blown away every time I visit in the spring when the flowers burst into bloom. The variety of flowers and backdrop options at Longwood Gardens are endless. I especially love when we catch the Wisteria garden in bloom, which typically happens in early-mid May.
- Pro Scheduling Tip: Schedule your session for a Thursday or Friday evening. Longwood Gardens is much less busy and open later these days, so we can time our session just before sunset when the light is soft and flattering.

Valley Forge ~ King of Prussia
- Best Time to Schedule Spring Photos: April – June
- The Highlights: Stone architecture, columns, log cabins, barns, bridges, fields, historic rustic charm, stone arches, sweeping valley views, long grasses, and seasonal flowers are just a few of the many beautiful backdrops Valley Forge offers. There are beautiful backdrops around Valley Forge even in the early spring before all the leaves are back on the trees. And of course it’s beautiful when the spring colors burst forth, too. Valley Forge is one of the most popular spots for family photos for good reason!

Springton Manor Farm ~ Glenmoore
- Best Time to Schedule Spring Photos: May & June
- The Highlights: Barns, fences, animals, tree-lined paths, big boulders, fields, swooping branches, long grasses, a pond, and seasonal flowers. You’d be hard pressed to find a spot with more variety of beautiful backdrops at a single location than Springton Manor Farm. I chose to do our own family photos here in the spring a few years ago. That definitely earns this farm bonus points as one of the best spots for spring photos!

Green Lane ~ Perkiomenville
- Best Time to Schedule Spring Photos: May & June
- The Highlights: This is one of my go to spots for families who love the idea of a lake backdrop for their photos. There’s also a bridge and waterfall I love here that truly make this spot a special gem. It’s best to wait until May or June when the leaves are fully back on the trees to filter the sunshine and make the most of the colorful reflections off the lake.

Historic Poole Forge ~ Narvon
- Best Time to Schedule Spring Photos: May & June
- The Highlights: A red covered bridge, creek, stone house, bridge, and spring flowers make this a beautiful spot for spring photos. It’s best to wait until May or June so we’re surrounded by greenery once the leaves are fully back on the trees. And if we’re lucky, we’ll catch some spring flowers in bloom around the stone houses as well!

Lavender Farm ~ Coatesville
- Best Time to Schedule Spring Photos: Late June
- The Highlights: This lavender farm has other beautiful backdrops like a barn, horse pasture, and pergola with a purple chair swing, but my eyes are always drawn back to the fields of soft purple lavender. This is a beautiful setting for any family’s photos, but I especially love this spot for families with young kids because the lavender is the perfect height for sitters and early walkers to explore and interact with the flowers.
- Pro Scheduling Tip: The bees LOVE the lavender. So if you or your little ones are allergic to or afraid of bees, it’s best to choose a different setting for your family’s spring photos.
