A Joyful Maternity Session at The Secret Garden
Being a West Chester maternity photographer has brought me so many fond memories over the years, and there are some places that seem to make every maternity session feel a little more magical. The Secret Garden in West Chester, PA is definitely one of those places for me. With its fully fenced private garden, adorable little greenhouse, and flowers blooming throughout the seasons, it offers so many beautiful backdrops while still feeling intimate and peaceful. It’s one of my favorite spots for capturing the excitement and anticipation that comes with welcoming a new baby.
Mom looked absolutely stunning in an asymmetrical wine-colored dress with delicate lace accents from my Client Closet. The deep jewel-toned color complemented her skin tone beautifully and looked incredible surrounded by the lush greenery and colorful blooms of the garden. But as beautiful as she looked on the outside, what stood out most was the way she was absolutely glowing with love for the baby growing inside her.
And then there was big sister Aurora, who was clearly very excited about her new role as a big sister! I had the pleasure of taking Aurora’s newborn photos when she was baby, and I absolutely loved getting to see her embrace her new role. One of my favorite moments from the session was watching her gently touch her mama’s belly as she prepared to welcome her baby sister into the world. There was something so sweet about seeing her already beginning to connect with her baby sister Persephone before they had even met.
These little moments are exactly why I love family-centered maternity photography. Yes, we capture the beautiful belly, the gorgeous dress, and the stunning garden setting, but the photographs become so much more meaningful when they also capture the relationships and emotions surrounding this incredible season of life. Soon, Aurora will get to hold her baby sister Percy in her arms instead of simply feeling her wiggles through Mom’s belly. Until then, these photographs will preserve this sweet in-between season—the waiting, the anticipation, and the excitement to meet baby Percy.
I can’t wait to see you all again soon as a family of four when your new little love arrives 💕
